Principles of Risk Management

• Understand and evaluate the organisation’s risk management, its processes, importance and strategies.
• Examine the effect of legislation, legal obligations and regulatory authorities on the management of health and safety risks within an organisation.
• Evaluate the scope, harmonisation and application of ISO standards in organisational risk management.

In the first module, learners are introduced to the relevant ISO standards for organisational risk management, their scope, harmonisation and practical application. Learners will examine the role of international standards in supporting the development of effective risk management frameworks in different organisational settings.

Strategic Risk Management

• Identify and assess strategic risks and their potential impact on an organisation.
• Discover how to apply suitable techniques and tools to identify an organisation’s strategy, risk plans, competitive position and market performance.
• Assessment of CSR risk management within the STEP framework, current challenges and impact of unethical organisational practices.
• Evaluate business continuity risks, the significance of business impact analysis, and methods of crisis management and continuity planning.

This module exposes learners to ways to assess business continuity risks and to evaluate their potential impact on organisations. It also includes business impact analysis, crisis management and continuity planning in relation to corporate strategy

Responsible Leadership and Governance

• Review organisational approaches to the management and promotion of employee well-being and workforce diversity.
• Identify strategic leadership, management theories and flexible leadership styles in organisational risk management.
• Emphasise the importance of corporate governance and how frameworks, regulations, and laws affect stakeholders.
• Learn corporate governance principles, board responsibilities, and directors’ duties in managing an organisation.

The module teaches learners how organisations manage employee well-being, workforce diversity, strategic leadership, and corporate governance. It also introduces responsible business management frameworks, board responsibilities, and directors’ duties in supporting effective organisational risk management.

Organisational and Environmental Risk

• Know different types of business risks and high-risk activities across various economic sectors.
• Study the role of risk management, business functions, and different approaches to risk assessment and management in organisations.
• Identify organisational risks and their potential impact, assess the strategic benefits of effective risk management and develop a risk management plan to mitigate them.
• Assess hazard control methods and identify suitable risk financing solutions to organisational requirements.

This module will cover common hazard control methods, and students will assess appropriate risk financing solutions for organisations. They will also consider how to choose the right financing options for effective risk management.

Risk Analysis and Modelling

• Understand operational risk, Basel II’s Sound Practices and the seven official Basel II risk event types
• Assess Basel III standardised approaches to operational and credit risk and apply operational risk capital calculation methodologies.
• Learn about the Black-Scholes model, Knightian uncertainty, the Ellsberg paradox, Black Swan events and Dynamic Financial Analysis in organisational risk environments.
• Able to apply some quantitative risk management methods such as VaR, CVaR and EVaR mathematical models.

This module provides students with an understanding and application of quantitative models to analyse financial risk and uncertainty. They will also acquire technical skills in the use of models to support informed business decisions.

Advanced Research Methods in Risk Management

• Critically analyse research problems and develop well-founded research questions, aims and appropriate research methods.
• Develop a structured critical review of the literature. Analyse theoretical approaches to research problems.
• Develop an appropriate research methodology to match research objectives, target populations and ethical standards.
• Developing a research question; Designing a literature review and methodology; Applying appropriate methods of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.

The last module addresses the application of knowledge and practical skills for planning authentic research in risk management. Students will formulate a structured research proposal which will include a research question, literature review, methodology and the appropriate quantitative or qualitative data collection and analysis techniques.

Delivery

The course is delivered fully online through a learning platform called Moodle. Since this is an online learning course, it allows students to learn at their own pace, adjusting to their flexibility without interfering with their existing schedule and daily productivity.

Duration

The Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in Risk Management course takes 8 months to finish. In detail, the students are given 100 hours to finish each module; thus, it takes 600 guided learning hours altogether. But this is self-paced, depending on the students’ flexibility to learn all the course lessons.

Assessment

After each of the six modules, the students are required to complete an online assessment submitted via Moodle. Upon completion, they will be awarded the Qualifi Level 7 Diploma in Risk Management.
