Course Content of the ICE Professional Review Coaching

The ICE Professional Review Coaching follows a structured preparation process. Each stage helps candidates organise their evidence, improve their submission and practise the activities involved in the official Professional Review. To give you an overview, please check the snippets of the stages below!

Stage 1: Induction and Professional Review Planning

  • Receive an introduction to the ICE Professional Review process and the support available throughout the coaching.
  • Candidates will review the intended professional registration route, such as IEng MICE or CEng MICE.
  • Learners will understand the main application stages, documents, and preparation responsibilities.
  • Students will learn about sponsor requirements and the responsibilities of the lead sponsor.
  • Candidates will create a preparation plan based on the intended submission and review dates.

This stage gives candidates a clear overview of the coaching process and helps them organise the work required before preparing their Professional Review submission.

Stage 2: ICE Attributes and Evidence Mapping

  • Explore the seven ICE Attribute groups assessed during the Professional Review.
  • Candidates will understand that, with a certain grade, comes a certain level of competence and responsibility.
  • Learners will be able to connect relevant ICE attributes to their professional experience.
  • Students can select relevant examples for submission from their engineering projects, workplace decisions, and responsibilities.
  • Candidates will identify gaps where further evidence, explanation, or professional development may be required.
  • Learners will learn how to demonstrate technical judgement, leadership, sustainability, safety, commercial awareness and professional commitment.

By the end of this stage, candidates should know how to connect their experience to the ICE Attributes and which examples are most suitable for their application.

Stage 3: Professional Review Submission Preparation

  • Candidates will understand the purpose of the application form, two-page CV, Professional Review report, appendices and CPD records.
  • Plan a report that presents professional development through a clear and connected narrative.
  • Explain personal responsibilities rather than describing only the work completed by the wider project team.
  • Present important decisions, engineering challenges, solutions and lessons learnt.
  • Learners can select supporting drawings, calculations, cost information or other evidence for the appendices.
  • Students can check that the report and supporting documents are consistent with each other.

This stage helps candidates develop a complete submission for the review. The completed submissions will clearly communicate their competence, responsibilities and professional development.

Stage 4: Submission Review and Revision

  • Candidates will submit the submission draft for review.
  • Receive feedback on structure, relevance, clarity and supporting evidence.
  • Students can identify areas where the ICE Attributes have not been demonstrated strongly enough.
  • Learners will improve explanations of personal contribution, independent judgement and leadership for the submission.
  • Correct weak, repetitive or overly technical sections in their submission.
  • Candidates can make revisions before preparing the final application for submission to ICE.

After this stage, candidates will have a better submission after the revisions and feedback from the coach.

Stage 5: Presentation and Mock Interview Preparation

  • Prepare a focused 15-minute presentation based on an aspect of the Professional Review report.
  • Organise the presentation so that it expands on the report rather than simply repeating it.
  • Candidates will practise how they can convey technical information clearly and confidently to reviewers.
  • Learners will take part in mock interviews through live online sessions.
  • Students will respond to questions covering engineering decisions, responsibilities and ICE Attributes.
  • Candidates will receive feedback on the quality of answers, delivery and other areas that require more preparation.

This stage helps candidates become more confident when doing presentations. Candidates will be able to convey their experience and answer questions from professional reviewers.

Stage 6: Communication Task Practise

  • Understand the purpose and expected format of the ICE Communication Task.
  • Practise interpreting a current engineering or construction sector-related scenario.
  • Identify the intended audience, purpose and required style of response.
  • Candidates can organise information into a logical and clearly written structure.
  • Learners can complete practice activities under timed conditions.
  • Students will receive feedback on clarity, relevance, professional tone and communication skills.

By completing this stage, candidates should be better prepared for the Communication Task part of the review. Candidates will be able to analyse unfamiliar information and produce a clear, audience-appropriate response within the available assessment time.

In a forensic delay analysis course, participants learn how to analyze delays in construction projects and determine the cause and effect of those delays. Testimony in such a course may involve presenting a case study where a delay occurred in a construction project and explaining how the delay was analyzed and resolved. In addition, cover the legal aspects of delay analysis, including the role of delay analysis in resolving disputes between parties involved in a construction project. Participants may also learn about best practices for conducting a forensic delay analysis and how to present their findings in a clear and concise manner. Overall, the goal for a forensic delay analysis course is to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the process of analyzing delays in construction projects and to provide practical skills for conducting such analysis in real-world scenarios.
